Academy History

During the past nineteen years of business the Academy has grown from strength to strength, building a professional standing in performing arts training. Originally called Shiney Street Theatre School, it is considered one of the best young people’s theatre schools in the North East, and began in 1989 with the help of the Enterprise Allowance Scheme with a class of 15 students. Since then hundreds of young people have gained experience and gone on to have promising careers in television and theatre.

 

Academy Success

Representing the best of the talent in the North East, the Academy can boast many successes over the years with a very high percentage rate of students winning performance roles. With the combination of gifted young people and the teaching techniques which emphasise this talent in a very positive and productive way, the Academy has captured the attention of many casting directors and theatrical agents and producers from all over the country, and has had remarkable success in providing students for television, theatre and film.

NADA are regularly contacted by casting companies to provide young actors, therefore each student is trained to a very high standard and is automatically represented by the Academy’s Theatrical Agency.

Many of our past students have had main parts in:

Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Byker Grove (over 20 main cast), Catherine Cookson films, Wire in the Blood, Purely Belter, Elizabeth, Badger, Blind Ambition, Finney, Spender plus Our Friends in the North.

Also a variety of regional projects: Theatre, Radio, Television, Adverts and many more.
